• Lars has recorded a drum track with Merciful Fate for a remake of their song "Return of the Vampire."

• In 1973 at age nine, Lars, attended his first hard rock concert, a Deep Purple gig in his hometown of Copenhagen. He was so impressed by what he saw that he became a fanatical collector of all the albums from bands like Black Sabbath and Thin Lizzy.

• He later discovered the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, led by groups such as Iron Maiden, Saxon, Sweet Savage and Diamond Head, which to this day remains the influence on Metallica's musical direction.

• In late 1976 Lars got his first drum-kit as a present from his grandparents.

• In 1980 Lars flew to Britain to see his favorite band at the time, Diamond Head, perform live in concert. He met vocalist Sean Harris and hung around with the group for a month. He also visited his relatives in Copenhagen, where he got to know the band Mercyful Fate. He returned to Los Angeles determined to form his own European-sounding metal band.

• When he was younger, Lars spent most of the day following in his father's footsteps and playing tennis. Lars' father was a tennis pro. Lars wanted to be just like him so he started to play tennis and became very serious in it. After moving to Los Angeles, he gave up tennis and started drumming.
